I am the Consultant
Dietitian for this group of 5 nursing homes based near
Lancaster. The emphasis is on maintaining a good quality of
life for the elderly residents, many of whom have complex
health and nutrition problems.
My role involves working
closely with all the staff and residents to promote good
nutrition using a 'food first ' approach.
This is a partnership
between the job centre and the NHS. The programme offers
a 13 week window of help and support to people on long term
incapacity benefit to enable people to manage their long term
conditions so they can return to work.
I provide practical
dietary advice either in individual consultations or as short
courses to help people understand their dietary habits and
make simple changes for improved wellbeing.
I work in partnership
with Diane Heeley-Creed RGN, nurse educator and Owen
Mumford to create the diabetes care programme. We
continue to review the programme so that it can be
delivered to care homes across the UK.

Currently Diane Heeley-Creed and myself are working across Cumbria to deliver diabetes awareness training to care staff working in the care homes and care organisations of Cumbria County Council.
Regular talks on a variety
of nutrition related topics for the benefit of members of
North Lakes Hotel and Spa. Enabling members to put good
nutrition into practice.
Other work includes working
with the Danone Activia New You Plan and Which magazines survey of hospital canteens and talks to a
variety of different organisations.
Bariatric Outreach Clinic
Providing dietary advice and
support for people who have had gastric surgery to help them
achieve weight loss.
